Henry Ballard Graves, 90-year-old retired attorney whose home was at 1430 Granger Ave., died early this morning at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Born June 14, 1861, in Battle Creek, he was the son of the late Judge Benjamin F. and Ann E. Lapham Graves. He attended Battle Creek schools and was graduated in 1882 from the University Law School.
Mr. Graves studied law in the Lansing office of his father, who was a Michigan Supreme Court Justice, and later went to Detroit, where he practiced law for more than 50 years, retiring in 1945. He had made his home in Ann Arbor since 1915.
Mr. Graves was a member of the American Judicature Society.
Surviving is his wife, Mabelle McDonald Graves.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Rev. Chester H. Loucks of the First Baptist Church and Rev. William T. Matters of Lansing officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Detroit.
