Retired elementary teacher Mary D. Mitchell, after whom Mitchell school is named, died Saturday at age 96.
Mrs. Mitchell taught 30 years in Detroit, Ann Arbor and in the former Pittsfield District where she served for a short time as superintendent until her retirement in 1949.
She lived at Lurie Terrace and had been an Ann Arbor resident 60 years.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters, 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlig Chapel, the Rev. Terry N. Smith officiating.
