Ann Arbor Quarterbacks Will Frolic At Barton
The Ann Arbor Quarterback Club has a footballish title but baseball and golf will be in the spotlight Tuesday when the Quarterbacks hold their annual spring outing at the Barton Hills Country Club.
Baseball, major league variety, will be represented in the persons of various members of the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Athletics while the Quarterbacks themselves will have to furnish the golf. It will precede the 7 p.m. dinner with early foursomes scheduled to begin firing at 1:30 p.m.
Quarterback Club officials have emphasized the Tuesday outing will not be restricted to club members. It will be open to both members and guests.
Van Patrick, Detroit sportscaster who does the play-by-play at all Tiger games, will be on hand to serve as master of ceremonies. With him as guests will be Virgil Trucks, who hurled that no-hit game against Washington Thursday; Ferris Fain, Philadelphia Athletics first baseman and American League batting champ in 1951; the Kell brothers, George of the Tigers and Skeeter of the Athletics, and a majority of the Detroit mound crew in the persons of ever-popular Dizzy Trout, Ted Gray, Art Houtteman, Fred Hutchinson, and the highly-promising rookie Billy Hoeft.
All members of the Michigan coaching staff will attend, too, so, perhaps, other sports won't be forgotten entirely.
