Description

The annual Kerrytown BookFest exhibit this year celebrates the 9th annual Book Cover Design contest for high school students.

The contest, open to all Michigan High School students, asks the students to reimagine and design a cover for a chosen book and give a visual interpretation to the written word. This year’s book is Of Scars and Stardust, a young adult novel by Andrea Hannah.

This year’s judges were Andrea Hannah; young adult author, David James; Nicola’s Bookstore manager Linda Caine, and children’s book expert Jackie LaRose. The judges evaluated work submitted from schools in Ann Arbor, Flint, Kensington Woods, and Hillsdale.

The contest finalists are:
Julianne Cooney, 9th Grade, Community High School
Logan Gorman, 9th Grade, Community High School
Alexis Higgins, 11th Grade, Hillsdale High School
Peyton Johnston, 10th Grade, Kensington Woods
Shaye Rumsberger, 11th Grade, Kensington Woods

The finalists were chosen on the basis of originality, execution, and understanding and application of the subject matter. Members of this year’s judging panel will announce the first, second and third place winners at the AADL Reception on Friday, September 9 at 7:00 pm.

This year’s exhibit will also include a brief history of the contest, with cover designs of past finalists and winners and comments from the respective judges on those designs.
