PINCKNEY - Mrs. Gertrude E. Hicks, 81, of Putnam township, Livingston county, died Thursday night at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor after a brief illness.
Mrs. Hicks was born July 6, 1874, in Putnam township, a daughter of James and Estelle Tompkins Fitch, and married Bert Hicks on Sept. 25, 1896. He died in 1949. The couple's son, Roy, died in 1921.
Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Community Congregational Church in Pinckney.
Survivors are a niece, Mrs. Zillah Baker of Walled Lake; and a nephew, Charles Fitch of Lake Orien.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Swarthout Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Ezra Beachy officiating. Burial will be in Pinckney Cemetery.
