Mrs. Edith E. Apfel, 91, the widow of George E. Apfel, a former Ann Arbor clothier, died suddenly last night at her home at 1616 Granger Ave. She had been a lifelong Ann Arbor resident.
She was born here Oct. 26, 1863, a daughter of the late Adolph and Wilhelmina Miller Kemper. She married Mr. Apfel on her birthday in 1886. He was a partner in the firm of Lindenschmidt & Apfel. He died March 17, 1936.
Mrs. Apfel was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid Society of the church, and the Goodwill Circle of The King's Daughters.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Carl W. Sanzi, Mrs. Charles A. Fisher, and Mrs. Wilford B. Russell, all of Ann Arbor; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and six great-granddaughters. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Charles Roehm, Miss Minnie Kemper, and Miss Elizabeth Kemper, all of Ann Arbor. Another daughter, Mrs. Ethel Hallenbeck, died here in 1931.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Muehlig Chapel, with the Rev. E. C. Stellhorn officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
The family requests that contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church building fund in lieu of flowers.
