Prof. Stanley D. Dodge, a University geography professor who | has been an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church here since 1928, was ordained as a deacon here yesterday in his home church.

The Rt. Rev. Archie H. Crowley, suffragan bishop of the Episcopal diocese of Michigan, officiated in ordaining him to the Episcopal diaconate, the first order of the Episcopal clergy.

As a deacon he can perform most duties of the ministry except celebrating Holy Communion. Full priesthood may be attained in about a year.

The Rev. Henry Lewis, rector of St. Andrew’s delivered the sermon at the ceremonies yesterday morning. The Rev. Robert H. Whitaker presented Prof. Dodge to the Bishop.

The Rev. Philip L. Schenk, rector of the St. Clare Mission read the litany of ordinations and the Rev. Wilbur R. Schutze, associate rector of St. Andrew's, the epistle. The Rev. Robert Murray of St. James Church in Dexter was among other participants.

William B. Klatt, former lay assistant to the clergy at St. Andrew's now studying for the ministry in California, served as the bishop's chaplain for the service.

He had flown here for a visit.

An ordination luncheon followed in the parish house, given by the vestry of the church.

The Rev. Mr. Dodge is a former member of the vestry, ushering committee, acolyte (one who serves at the altar) and lay reader in missions of the surrounding area.

He plans to continue on the University faculty and assist with church work at St. Andrew's and in mission churches.
