Frances W. Ticknor is dead at age 86
Funeral services will be held Friday for Frances W. Ticknor, lifetime Ann Arbor resident, who died Wednesday.
Miss Ticknor, 86, was a great-great niece of Dr. Benajah Ticknor, who began the building of what is now Cobblestone Farm. She was born on the family farm at 2862 Stone School Rd. and resided there all her life. She maintained an interest in the history of the area and donated pictures and artifacts to Cobblestone Farm.
Miss Ticknor was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there for many years. She received the Churchmanship Award in 1966.
SHE WAS BORN Aug. 3, 1892, the daughter of Frank and Annie Ticknor. She attended the old Stone School and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1909 and the University of Michigan in 1914. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Miss Ticknor worked for two years as a teacher at Algonac High School, for nine years at Jones School in Ann Arbor when it was a junior high school and for 25 years at Hamilton Business College.
In addition to her church membership, Miss Ticknor was a member of the Lydia Circle of the Michigan Methodist Women Society, the Washtenaw County, State of Michigan and National Historical Societies and the Cobblestone Farm Association.
SURVIVORS include a brother, Donald J. Ticknor, Sr.; one niece, Mrs. Janet M. Hutzel; two nephews, Raymond F. Ticknor and Donald J. Ticknor, Jr.; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Fontana Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Fred B. Maitland of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cobblestone Farm Association or The First United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home today between 2-4 p.m.
