My name is Isabelle, but my friends call me Izzy. I love drawing, painting, and doodling. I also like to read and write. I have long, brown hair that I always leave down. I also love running and doing track.

My best friend is Ashlyn and she’s a total bookworm. She is really smart and athletic, but I guess she has to be with three brothers that chase her around.

However, my friend James used to love football, but now he is more into robotics and technology. He is kind and sweet, but he likes to joke around and goof off. He is super nice and funny.

His best friend’s name is Matt, but he is the opposite. He loves football and plays it all of the time. Everyone is his friend and he is really funny.

One day, we were hanging out and walking to James’ house, because he said he had something to show us. While we were walking, Matt started complaining and said, “I have homework that is due tomorrow. Let’s get this show on the road.”

“Yeah and I have homework that is due next week,” Ashlyn said.

“Follow me, you whining babies,” James said.

Finally, we get to James’ house. “Follow me m’ladies,” he said.

“Hey, I’m here,” Matt replied.

“I know, that’s why I said m’ladies,” James replied. Ashlyn and I start to laugh and Matt rolls his eyes while walking off.

We start walking down the stairs to James’ basement, where we always hang out.

“Ladies and gentlemen. Prepare to be amazed,” James says. Then, he walks over to a big white sheet, that seems to be covering something. When he pulls off the sheet, he displays a big box made of metal and wires.

“What is that?” Ashlyn asks.

“My time machine,” James replies, but none of us believe him. “Watch, I will put this old jacket in there and set it for five minutes from now. Then, it will land right there,” he says as he points to a random spot in the basement. He touches a few button and the jacket disappears.

“Are we just going to look at each other for five minutes?” I ask.

“Well, my mom made brownies,” James says.

“Sold. Where are they?” asks Matt.

“In the kitchen,” says James.

“Let’s go,” Ashlyn replies, getting up.

As we walk to the kitchen, James’ little sister, Lily, stops us.

“Izzy! Ashlyn!” she says running to us. Matt and James keep walking, but Ashlyn and I stop.

“How are you?” Ashlyn asks, swooping her up and giving her a hug.

“I’m amazing! I lost a tooth today!” she says.

“Wow! Really? I can’t believe it!” Ashlyn and I say to her. She smiles widely and you can see where the tooth was. Then, Lily’s mom calls for her.

“Coming,” she calls back.

Ashlyn and I walk into the kitchen to see Matt and James eating brownies. “Save me some!” Ashlyn yells as she jumps in and grabs two. I walk to the fridge to get a mixed fruit cup out.

“Get the milk too!” Matt says. I pull out the milk and James pours 5 cups.

“That’s too many cups of milk,” Ashlyn says.

“No it’s not,” James replies. As he says that, Lily walks in and grabs a brownie and I giggle as she attempts reach the cup. Once she gets it, with James’ help, she runs upstairs.

Ashlyn glares at me because I have fruit. “Get that poison away from my brownies,” she says to me. She smiles and we start walking to the basement. As we walk into the basement, we see the jacket right where James said it would be.

As he smiles at us he says, “I told you! I knew it would work!”

“Woah, is that real?” Matt says, amazed.

“Can people actually go through it?” Ashlyn asks.

“I haven’t tried that yet,” James replies.

“Can we?” I ask.

“Is everyone up to it?” James asks.

“Sure,” we all say.

“Then let’s do it,” James says.

We all hop into the time machine, and it’s a tight fit. “Where should we go?” James asks.

“The future! I want to see what the world looks like,” Matt says.

“Really?” I ask, looking at him.

“Yeah, why not?” he replies. He laughs and hits a button. All I see is white, and then a sudden pop of color.

“What year is it?” Matt asks as we walk around.

“I punched 4834 in the system. We must’ve gone there,” James says.

‘‘Let’s look around,” Ashlyn says skipping through the streets.

We walk around for a while before Matt starts complaining “My feet and my stomach hurt. I’m bored,” he says. I can tell Ashlyn is getting annoyed, because she  spins around and punches him in the arm.

“Stop complaining! You are acting like a two-year-old,” Ashlyn screams at him. James and I look at each other and laugh.

Matt, now holding his arm, walks up behind us. “I didn’t know Ashlyn was so strong,” he says. Ashlyn spins around and acts like she will punch him again and Matt flinches while we all laugh.

Pretty soon, we hear a loud siren. A voice crackles into a speaker and we hear: “Everyone. Take cover and stay indoors. The zombie apocalypse has commenced.” We all start panicking.

“James do you have a way back?” I ask.

“Yeah. I have the landing pad right here,” he says. So we all step on and James hits a button. A flash of white appears and we are back in the basement.

“That was scary,” Ashlyn says.

“I hope something changes and that never happens,” Matt says.

James’ mom calls for us: “Kids! Dinner!” We all start walking upstairs.

“Do you think that was real?” Matt asks.

“Let’s hope not,” Ashlyn replies.

“In other news, did anyone finish the science assignment that is due tomorrow?” I ask.

“No!” everyone says. We all laugh and go eat some meatloaf. During dinner, we all look suspicious.

"What's going on?" James' mom, Laurie, asks us.

"Nothing," James says looking at us. And we all giggle.
