Retired Restaurateur David Willits Dies
David M. Willits, 93, a former Ann Arbor restaurant operator and real estate dealer, died Saturday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He lived at 6400 Plymouth Rd., Superior Township.
He was born Jan. 2, 1872, in Wroxiter, Ont., Canada, a son of Crockett and Jane Akins Willits. He came to Ann Arbor in 1893 and soon after opened a fish and poultry market. He later opened a wholesale ice cream business. From 1900-1930 he operated the Willits Oyster Bay restaurant, a campus eating place for University students, at S. State and N. University Aves.
