New car is payoff for rare gamble

Rachel Kissling of Whitmore Lake says she rarely buys MichIgan state lottery tickets.

But one of "those few tickets she did purchase paid off for her and husband Gene Wednesday when they took delivery of a new Dodge Omni.

The Kisslings, both employees of the University of Michigan, won $5,000 toward the purchase of a new Chrysler production through a new state lottery program. After first winning $50 through the lottery’s instant game, they became eligible for the $5,000 prize, which the state had agreed to put toward the purchase of a car from the ailing auto company.

THE COUPLE received their 1980 black, four-door Dodge OmnI
from Arbor Dodge general manager Don Barrett Wednesday. Mrs. Kissling said she was “pretty surprised” by the chain of events, and admitted she doesn’t remember quite where or when she purchased the lucky ticket.

“It was either Polly’s or CJ’s party stores in Whitmore Lake. I’m not sure,” said Mrs. Kissling, a supervisor in the keypunch department at the U-M Institute for Social Research. “We’ve never won anything like this before. ”

The new car is the couple’s second Dodge Omni, she said, they will use the car to drive to work, “since it gets such good mileage.” Gene Kissling is a supervisor at the U-M’s Computer Center, and the couple has lived in the area for 2 1/2 years.
