Addition Of Three Patrolmen Brings Police Force To 51

Strength of Ann Arbor’s police department rose to 51 with the recent appointment of three new patrolmen. Already in training, preliminary to their assignment to beats, the three men are Carl Nolan Littlejohn, Edward Joseph Wolanski, and Cebert Ward Hughes.

Littlejohn, 34, was born in Illinois and graduated from the Casey, Ill., High School. He, who lives with his wife and four-year-old daughter at 902 Pauline Blvd., is a veteran of 28 months’ service with the U. S. Navy and was employed at the Hoover Ball & Bearing Co. before joining the police force.

Wolanski, 22, a former Detroiter, attended Southeastern High School and the Wilbur Wright Trade School, and served 31 months in the Army Air Forces. He lives with his wife and baby daughter at 1007 Greene St., and was employed in Mt. Clemens before his appointment to the Ann Arbor police department.

Hughes, 26, formerly of Wayne, is a graduate of Ypsilanti High School. A former infantryman, and for two years a prisoner of war in the European theater, he was employed in Milan from the time of his Army discharge in 1945 until he joined the local police. He is married, has a four-year-old daughter, and lives at 2716 Packard St.

Three New Patrolmen Begin Duties

Newly appointed Ann Arbor policemen now in training preparatory to their assignment as patrolmen are: Left, Carl Nolan Littlejohn, 34, of 902 Pauline Blvd.; center, Edward Joseph Wolanski, 22, of 1007 Greene St.; and right, Cebert Ward Hughes, 26, of 2716 Packard Rd. Addition of the three new men brings the strength of the department to 51.
