Harry Nichols, Wife To Mark Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Nichols of Packard St. will mark their 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow with a family dinner at the Dearborn Inn.
Joining them in the celebration will be their two daughters, Mrs. Henry Andresen of New York City and Mrs. R. S. Owen of Highland Park, Ill., and their husbands.
Mr. and Mrs. Nichols were married Nov. 21, 1900, by the late Rev. T. W. Young, then pastor of the First Baptist Church. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride’s parents, which was situated at the corner of S. Fifth Ave. and E. Liberty St. where Fischer’s Pharmacy now stands.
Born Here
Mrs. Nichols, the former Flora Koch, was born here Mar. 12, 1876, the daughter of the late John and Christina Koch. Her father was the senior partner in the Koch and Henne Furniture store. She attended Ann Arbor High School and was graduated from the University School of Music. She is a charter member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority chapter at the University.
Mr. Nichols, the son of the late Henry A. and Flora Nichols, was born in Bloomington, Ill., on March 5,1875. He came to Ann Arbor with his family in 1891 and was graduated from Ann Arbor High School. Mr. Nichols attended the University, where he was affiliated with Delta Upsilon fraternity, and at the time of his marriage was employed by the Carnegie Steel Co. of Pittsburgh.
Long-Time Residents
The Nicholses have spent most of their married life in Ann Arbor. In 1904, Mr. Nichols joined his father-in-law in the furniture store, which was retitled the Koch & Nichols Store.
For the past nine years, Mr. Nichols has managed the Moe Sports Shop branch store at Packard and State Sts. He is a past-president of the Kiwanis Club, a past master of Golden Rule Lodge, F. & A.M., and the founder and first monarch of Zal Gaz Grotto.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Nichols are members of the First Congregational Church.
