Suicide Prevention Month

by Sunny29

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, providing an opportunity to learn about, and connect with, your local suicide prevention resources. All month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.

Local suicide prevention coalition, Washtenaw Alive has created a comprehensive list of resources in the area. If you or anyone you know is having suicidal thoughts, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255), the national suicide prevention helpline.

If you think someone might be considering suicide, take these 5 steps:

- Ask the tough questions
- Keep them safe
- Be there and listen without judgement
- Help them connect to a support system or resources
- Follow up

As a final reminder, there will be a film screening of The S Word on Sunday, September 10th. The screening will take place at the Robertson Auditorium, 701 Tappan Ave, Ann Arbor.
