Following in Granddad's Steps: Area residents got their first view locally of traditional American Indian dances in four years yesterday at the Michigan Indian powwow being held this weekend at the Knights of Columbus Park on Dexter Rd. between Wagner and Zeeb Rds. Shown here is a performance yesterday of Eli Thomas (Chief Little Elk) of Mount Pleasant and his grandson as they perform one of the dances that has been handed down from generation to generation. The powwow is the first held in Ann Arbor since 1967. Until then they were a regular feature of summers here. The powwow continues today, including male Indian dances at 2 p.m., Indian art crafts and typical Indian foods. Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.
