Oscar David Morrill, 65, founder and owner of the S. State St. stationery business that bears his name, died at 9:30 last night at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Morrill came to Ann Arbor about 1906 to attend the University Law School and three years later he organized the O. D. Morrill Co. at 314 S. State St. It is now managed by his brother, Ralph Morrill.
O. D. Morrill was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on April 7, 1884, a son of David and Lillian Morrill. After attending high school there, he studied at a business college in Poughkeepsie, N. Y.
Once In Mining Business
He later moved to Sumpter, Ore., where he was associated with the Sumpter Gold Mining Co.
Mr. Morrill, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner, was a member of Golden Rule Lodge, F. & A. M., Ann Arbor Council, Royal and Select Masters, and Ann Arbor Commandery, Knights of Templar. He was also a member of the Elks Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving, in addition to Ralph Morrill, are another brother, Dr. G. Neal Morrill of Sturgis; three nieces, and four nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Dolph Funeral Home, with Rev. William H. Henderson of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home.
