Police Force Adds Four Men

Department Still 13 Patrolmen Short

Ann Arbor Police Chief Casper M. Enkemann announced four new patrolman went on duty today after completing a four-week training program.

The recruits are David B. Severance, 21, of Northville, Herbert Nation, 33, of 807 W. Liberty and Robert Conn, 21, of 2471 Pinecrest Ave., Pittsfield Park.

Severance was graduated from Northville High School in 1953 and served in the Navy for two years. He was discharged in April

of this year. Prior to his service tour he worked as a truck driver.

Severance is single and plans to move to Ann Arbor soon.

Nation, an army veteran of World War II, is a 1942 graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School in Mt. Vernon, Ill. He was also graduated from Olivet Nazerine College in Kankakee, Ill.

His last place of employment was at the General Motors Detroit Transmission Plant at Ypsilanti. He is married and father of a nine-year-old boy.

Farley is a graduate of Scott High School in Toledo, O., and served in the Navy from 1950 through 1954. He formerly worked as a lineman for the Union Pacific Railroad in Las Vegas, Nev. He is single.

Conn, a graduate of Northern High School in Flint, attended the University for three years. He is single.

Under provisions of a new budget recently provided for the Police Department, additional patrolmen are allowed. This new allowance ups the total of 81 personnel for the department.

With the addition of the four new men the police force is 13 patrolmen short of full strength, Chief Enkemann said.
