Description
Multi-instrumentalists Jake Blount and Laurel Premo have joined forces to shine a light upon the traditional fiddle and banjo music of Black and Native American communities. Blount and Premo will present tunes and songs from musicians of color as stripped-down duets on acoustic instruments, utilizing art and historical knowledge to draw the audience into the largely forgotten landscape of this diverse and powerful musical tradition.
Jake Blount (Ithaca, NY) has performed and recorded with acclaimed fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves and award-winning old-time string band The Moose Whisperers, in addition to having served as a guest lecturer at numerous museums and universities.
Through her work with the internationally touring duo Red Tail Ring, Laurel Premo (Kalamazoo, MI) has become known for her rhythmically deep and rapt performance of roots music from both sides of the Atlantic.
