Description
This special Letterpress Lab event is in celebration of Japan Week at AADL! Learn a bit about the history of traditional Japanese family crests, and get a chance to incorporate them into a small letterpress project. No prior printing experience required. We'll provide all of the supplies.
This event is part of Japan Week in partnership with the University of Michigan Center for Japanese Studies.
Our weekly Letterpress Lab runs every Wednesday evening, and will introduce you to the process and the materials for printing by hand on a cylinder proof press and small platen press. AADL staff will show you the basics and we’ll explore more advanced printing techniques with special guests. No prior experience necessary. Supplies are provided. You can return every Wednesday to work on multi-week projects. This program involves direct handling of lead-based type and is therefore not suitable for small children.
