Plans Authorized For New Ypsilanti Elementary School

YPSILANTI -- Construction of a small, seven-room elementary school on W. Forest Ave. at N. Adams St. took another step toward realization last night when the Board of Education authorized school architect Ralph S. Gerganoff to draw up preliminary plans.

Two houses are presently on the school site, which recently was purchased for $36,500 by the school district. No decision has been made on the immediate disposition of these structures, or whether administrative offices will be housed in the new school.

Gerganoff, present at last night's regular meeting, told board members approximately what the proposed school might cost. He said the seven-room, single-level building, completely equipped and landscaped, should not exceed $240,000. A second floor, for officers only, would cost an additional $30,000, Gerganoff added.

Citing the necessity of moving Central School from its present location in the main high school building, Supt. Evart W. Ardis recommended that actual construction begin this summer. Under present plans, a new junior high school, separate from the senior high division, will be set up and in operation by September, 1955.
