Spring Giant: Towering over the head of Mrs. Walter Allmendinger of 602 W. Washington St. is a seven-foot high African Lily. The exotic plant has been in the Allmendinger's possession for about 10 years. Each year in the spring a long stem bursts from the bulb. When the Allmendingers transport the plant outside, it eventually flowers into a palm tree. in the fall, the first frost kills the palm, the Allmendingers dig up the bulb, and back into the house the plant goes, waiting to soar to new heights in the spring.
