Needlework Guild's 'ingathering' scheduled for Nov. 18
YPSILANTI - The Ypsilanti chapter of the Needlework Guild of America will hold its 35th annual “ingathering”, which supplies new clothes for needy community residents, on Nov. 18.
The chapter is a loose organization of seven churches and four groups whose members make or buy new clothing for children and adults during the year. The clothes are collected every November for distribution to local social agencies.
This year, the “ingathering” will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the Ladies Literary Club building at 218 N. Washington. Guild members and community residents will be asked to contribute new clothing. Representatives of local social agencies will pick up the clothing from noon-1 p.m.
More than 1,000 items of clothing were collected by the Guild in 1982. This year the need for clothing is greater than usual, according to the guild.
Guild members include: the West Willow Church of God in Christ, First United Presbyterian, First Baptist, First United Methodist, Emanuel Lutheran, St. Luke’s Episcopal and Congregational churches, in addition to the Women’s Study Club, Ladies’ Literary Club, Senior Citizen Recreation Center and Camp Fire Washtenaw Council.
The clothes are donated to the House by the Side of the Road, York Wood Center, Salvation Army, Home Maker Services and Kith Haven Convelescent Center.
All donations are tax deductible.
