Pumpkin Tree It's sort of like Jack and the Bean Stalk. The three children of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Leidy, of 500 Hillspur Rd., Mary, 13, Peter, 11, and Elizabeth, 10, planted some pumpkins seeds in May on the hill behind their house. And the vines grew and grew and grew. The longest one climbed up a tree and is 36 feet long. As a pumpkin developed on the end of the vine, the tree began to sag. Originally when the pumpkin was small, it was quite high, in the tree according to Mrs. Leidy. From a total of five vines, the yield was only six pumpkins. Mary shows off the pumpkin that started way above her head and which has now sagged to almost ground level. (Ann Arbor News Photo By Cecil Lockard)
