Thoy are the pnor Teníales who live by their needie! By unremitled toil, they earn f rom a dollar to twenty shillings a week. Mnny, however, cnnnot earn even a dollar !- And out of thnt miserable sum they are to provide food and raiment and tho shelter of a roof at night ! Yearly their number incienses, nnd worse and worse grows their condition. Now, look at anolher department o female industry. - See that awkward rnstic girl, just arrived froni ilie green huls of VVicklovv or the smiling valleys of Antrim. SIir has not a shilling in the Wörli', nnd, excepting the " neighbor girl who came over wil h her," and a second cousin in Mulberry streel, she knows not a soul in America; yet, before tlie week comes to a close, she will be comfortably establ'shed as a domestic n some respectable family, earning t wol f e shillings a week, exclusive of all the comforts of a home, equal to tha! enjoyed by the family of the most opulent citizgn ! Now, whence comes it lha: domestic labor, whieh is thus properly remunerated, is monopolized by the immigrant ? The reason is obvious.
