The Presbytery of Portage, Ohio passed the following resolution, on the subject of Cheese-making on the Sabbath: Resolved, that, notwithslanding it may nvolve the necessity of pecuniary loss lo forego cheese-makingor. the Sabbalh, we deern it incumbent on church memb ts to mako) the subject as involving a fjuestion cf duty, and not of profit. Ex. '20: 8 11. We do notsee that the Presbytery took iny action on the subject of slavcry. - Truc Dcmocrat. 07= Some 800 Whigs celebrated the binh day ofllenry Clay inNewYok in great style, and wilh a degree of enthusinsm little short of madness. Hon. J. L. White, member ofCongress from Kentucky made a lengthy speech, deprecating Taylor's njmination for the Presidency, declaring that Ilenry Clay should runngain. The drift of all the proceedings was in a similar direction. To make a demonstration on this point was doubtles s the object of the meeting. (t?"
