Free Methodist Church Receives Design Award

A merit award in the annual church design contest sponsored by the National Association of Evangelicals has been received by the local Free Methodist Church for a proposed building on Newport Rd. north of Wines School.

The local architectural firm of Kainlauri, MacMullan and Millman Associates, Inc., is designing the church to replace the building located at 420 W. Huron St.

The church’s building committee has approved the design that features a sanctuary on the upper level and fellowship hall and offices at a lower level.

The fellowship hall also will serve as Sunday school classrooms until an educational unit is added. A basically simple square plan has been used in the design. The focal point of the sanctuary is a decorative wood and glass wall that creates multicolored light around the altar screen, the architect says.

The Rev. B. Gerald Hartman is pastor of the church.
