Season About Over: The morel mushroom season is just about over here and further north- which may be one reason Eldon Buehler, 20938 Waterloo Rd., Lyndon Township, didn't mind letting News Outdoor Page readers see a picture of the 232 dandies he found at an undisclosed Washtenaw County site. (Mushroom hunters traditionally are even more close-mouthed than fishermen about their "spots.") Needless to say, not many morel seekers here of elsewhere enjoy such luck in finding the tasty fungi which grow on wooded slopes and in other areas where they will get the most good from spring rains of the type Washtenaw has had in recent weeks. Even though the morels are about gone, it won't be too long before the fine-tasting puffballs will appear. And they grow best in late summer and early fall.
