Prof. Fairbanks Will

Sculpt Figure For Wyman Memorial

The youthful backers of the Claude Wyman Memorial were assured today that the monument to perpetuate the memory of the late Burns Park groundskeeper will be a professional job.

Avard Fairbanks, dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah and former University of Michigan professor, has offered to contribute his services as sculptor without cost.

Prof. Fairbanks is recognized as one of , the country’s foremost sculptors.

In a letter to Arthur Parker, jr., Bobbie Parker, and John Cole, Prof. Fairbanks - a former Burns Park area resident - said that Mr. Wyman “was a great friend of the children of Ann Arbor and it is a fine thing to remember him.”

He told the youths that the only expense of the memorial would be the cost of the bronze casting.

Prof. Fairbanks suggested a half life-sized figure of Mr. Wyman.

To aid the sculptor, the backers of the drive asked that anyone having a picture of Mr. Wyman send it to 309 Mosley St., Parker’s home. Parker will forward it to Prof. Fairbanks.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the memorial fund may send donations either to the Mosley St. address or to the Ann Arbor Bank in care of the Claude Wyman Memorial Fund. Contributions to date total $250.
