The correspondent of the Tribune ■writes Oom Philadelphia that YVednesday developed a sad cnse of unlawful - but it is not believed criminal - love, je:ilousy, and attempt nt murder. Wichel Bassford & Henry Dorsey we re previous to 'ïasl spring, residents of Louisville,and both paid their addresses toa young lady of much beauty - Miss Louisa Jenkins. Dorsey was the perferred suilorof the lady, bnt Bassford had money, and was favored by the parents. The result was Ihat she was persuaded, or rather (breed, to marry Bassford, who immediately bro't her to Lancaster, in this State, and set up business. A short time since, Mrs. Bassford, upon entering the dining room of the hotel where they boarded, encounlered Dorsey. She prevailed upon him to leave ber,and : hesubsequently signed a paper promising! to leave the city on a visit, and molest! them no farther. A (ew days ago, ! ford and his wifecame to this city on al visit, and put up at Mrs. Nugent's, in Market slreet. On Tuesdny evening, returning home, obout uine o'clock, Bassford found his w?1 'S; ;, JOckeu - and breaking topen, he enteied and saw Dorsey conversing with his ife and sister. instantly seizing a stick, he commenced beat ing Dorsey over the liead, and broke his jaw, and the bonesof his face, before he could be taken off. - Dorsey was taken to Ihe Hospital, where it was decided that he may recover, and Bassford is in prison. The wife remains in town, and bas admitted that she h;s received upwards of thirty letters from Dorsey, since her marriage, urging hqr to leave her husband. ïwo of these are in possession of the authorities. In looking over the record of 1I1Í3 tale of civilized horror, it is difficult to sa}' whether the parnts of the girl, the husbana, or the lover,shouldbe most censured - while we cïnnot withliold our profound comtniseration from the viclim of such a merciless combination of atrocities.
