Dr. Francis S. Onderdonk (behind wheel) of 1331 Geddes Ave. and his wife have equipped their car with two new-type safety belts which feature a shoulder strap attachment as well as the usual waist belt. Here, Mrs. Onderdonk demonstrates the use of the belt, which is fastened to the floor of the car behind the front seat. It can quickly be released by means of a buckle slide in front. Dr. Onderdonk, an instructor in architecture at the University from 1925 to 1933, is now a construction engineer at the Detroit Tank Arsenal. He said he paid $22.80 for the pair of belts and an installation charge of about $7.
