There are mai.v extensiva countries besides ourown, where slaves are yet held ir. bondage But we do not believe that onp can be found on tlie face of the earth where runaway slaves are hunted over so wide nn extent of lerritnry. In the "Old Thirteen" we all know the practise was common. Even General Washington sent into New England to rcclaim his own fugitives. Now, slaves are hunted thrnugh all the new States and Territories. Mr. Clay tried to get England to let us hunt them in Canada ; but John Buil would not con-ent. But when we conquer a country, we of course take our " institutions" along with us. Many of the officers of the army took their "boys" along with them to Mexico -s waitors. Gen. Taylor has several with him. 3ut in all situations they are given to ruiming away. Some of them recamped at Matamoras, and joined the Mexicans. But, as we are fast conquering the country, we shal' of course be able to follow them into the " Halls of the Mor.tezumas." The following parag-aph from a New Orleans paper shows that we cnn already pursue them successfully as far as Vera Cruz: " The steamer Palmetto and Edith arrived al Vera Cruz on the 8th inst. The schooner Gen. Worth had also arrived with one company of volligeurs. On the Palmetlo a lady is said to have arrrived from New Orleans, ín search of a runaway slave. Her pursuit is represenled ás beivg successful.'1
