Dr. Malcolm H. Soule, chairman of the bacteriology department at the University since 1935, was dismissed from the U-M faculty by the Board of Regents today for "mishandling of departmental funds."
In the surprise action, the Regents announced that Dr. Soule had made restitution of $487.05 to the University. There were no additional details.
Dr. Soule joined the University staff in 1931 as a professor of bacteriology and had been chairman of the department, a division of the Medical School, since 1935.
