New School Posts Setup And Appointments Made
The Ann Arbor Board of Education last night appointed two men to the newly created positions of supervisor of maintenance and supervisor of custodial and grounds services.
Robert High of 1332 Pomona Rd. will serve the school district as supervisor of maintenance, while Rolly Wurster of 3705 E. Morgan Rd., Pittsfield township, will fill the position of supervisor of custodial and ground services.
The new positions divide the supervisory work of the office of superintendent of buildings and grounds, eliminating that office which had been unoccupied since the death on April 26 of John B. High. The late Mr. High had served as superintendent of building and grounds for 33 years.
Robert High, the son of the late Mr. High, will co-ordinate and direct projects in the school system involving heating, ventilating, plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical work.
Worked For His Father
An employe of the school district the past 10 years, High had worked in the building and grounds department under his father, assuming part of the supervisory duties since his death.
He was graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1942.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an electrician’s mate on submarines for three years.
High has been active locally in Cub Scout work and serves as committee chairman for the Wines School Cub Pack.
He and his wife, Virginia, have four sons, Ray, 9, Robert, 8, William, 4, and Daniel, 2.
Will Co-Ordinate Work
Wurster, who has operated Rolly’s Landscape Service here since 1946, will co-ordinate and direct the work of all building custodians and groundsmen, and will be responsible for site development projects.
A resident of this area all his life, Wurster was graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1939.
He served on the Ann Arbor Police Department as a patrolman for four years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was graduated from the Army Officers Training School and served three years with the military police, attaining the rank of captain.
He is a member of local Masonic and Moose lodges and is active in church work.
He and his wife, Grace, have five children, David, 13, Barry, 11, Diana, 9, Nancy, 4, and Alice, 2.
