A friend in company took me to llitf slave market, not far from the cnpitol) (l blusli to name it. ) There I saw about one hundred men, women and children, for sale! I inquired how they carne in the building. The keeper said he 'bouglit ihem,' and informed me that an able boJied man was 'worth $600,' remarking t!iat it was probably a new sight to me. And indeed t was, and a disgusting sight, too. The place in which these slaves were confined was a long wooden building, witli gnited windows in part sometliing like a jail. There was aspaciocs yard, where the men were plnyingat b'ill. Oh! whcn will this inhuman practice ceae!"
