Where

County Farm Park

Description

county farm parkRefresh your soul and raise your spirits as we follow the June scent trail at County Farm Park, where plants, fruits, roots and trees that shape the spring scentscape are waiting to be discovered.

Follow your nose and learn how to describe smells in nature using “scent mapping” a sensory evaluation technique used by perfumers. Discover aromatic secrets of spring ephemerals that captivate the senses with their fragrant fleeting beauty. Taste seasonal foraged flavors including candied violets, autumn olive flower jelly, spruce tips sea salt, and spring wildflower tea (with violet, linden and rose). Experience the intriguing floral finish in Manistique Cheese from Zingerman's Creamery—it's something you wouldn't expect from a cow's milk cheese wrapped in cabbage leaves.

Programming is geared towards adults—there will be lots of listening and learning. Comfortable shoes that are appropriate for walking in the woods are recommended. We’ll meet at Platt Road Pavilion (by the kiosk and playground at the park) and begin promptly, rain or shine. Parking is available at 2230 Platt Road.

We will repeat the event on Saturday, June 1; please register for one event only.

This event is limited to 24 attendees and registration is required. To register, please send an email to registrations@aadl.org that includes your full name, phone number, and your chosen date (Saturday or Sunday) for every member of your party. You will receive a confirmation email after you’ve registered and a reminder the week before the event. WDIV Local 4 will be filming parts of this Smell & Tell. Registration constitutes consent to be to be filmed.

The Smell and Tell series of art+science programming is led by Michelle Krell Kydd, a trained nose in flavors and fragrance who shares her passion for gastronomy and the perfume arts on Glass Petal Smoke.  Smell & Tell builds community through interactions with flavor, fragrance and storytelling. The program celebrates its seventh anniversary year in June 2019 and is ongoing.
