We were gratified to liear ihis genile. man coma out so fully as he did last Tuesday in Hampden Hall, in favor of the principies and policy ofthe Liberty Party. We say principies and policy, because we du not wish to couvey the idea that he made any direct allusion to oür orgunizationtf we understood him correctly, he took the grounb th;it the Conslltuüon of the UniteJ States does not sanction I ry. He moreover said that poliiical action was the only way to correct this great evil. "I maintain,'' said he, "the rightfulnessof political action to the fullest extent." Mr. Calhoun alkided in strong and indignant terms, to the late sale of woinen in Washington, the avails of which Were put in the United Siales Treasury. - When he read the account of this transnction, he feit liUown resporuibility more deeply than ever. "This treasury," said he, "belongs to usall and we aie thus marie the receivers of stolen goods, nnd, as siich, are indictable nt comtnon latv.1' By which it appenrs that Mr. C. takes the true ground, that slaveholding is nianstealing. Mr. C. alluded to the dönunciafion of Abolitionists, by the ireiieiiiies, as visionarie. ;'ls he a visionnry who seeks thp welfare of his fellow men ? And is ho the practical m.in who does oll he c;n to destroy them ? Gommend me," said Mr. C, "to thO visionaries. 1 desire to be a visionary." We think, notwithstanding Mr. Calhoun is noaiinnlly n Whig, it mny be pretty snfely calt-ulnted ihnt ho will votTor nj slaveholdtir for President of the United States, even though he should be regular] y nominated by the putly.-JLtmpsüre Herald. We leun Gom the Winohwifcr Virginian, that. 13 slaves, the pioperly of Mr. Newton Bowley, of tbat place, cscaped fioin his premises on Satu relay night, week, and tbhomk- (ríompt mensures were taken for their recüveiy, bui two Irive yet beaa ie-tajiured.
