A sea of signs protests racism on the U-M campus during a march and rally Wednesday by the Black Action Movement, a former activist group being revived. At right, a BAM protester holds up a sign with a picture of the late Malcolm X and bearing the slogan 'By any means necessary,' referring to a list of 11 demands. BAM leaders said they are 'at war' with the U-M and pledged to shut it down unless steps are taken to improve conditions for black students.
