Bishop Joiins of Ballimore, at a recent mepting of the Protestant Episcopal Church in New York, made the following statement in regard (o Virginia, ns reported in the New York Express : 'At a recent meeting of t!e Bib!e Society in Virginia, it was reported that there are sixleen thousand families without ihe word of God. Fie knew of more than one county whore there was no edifice for the worship of God, nnd no ministers of any denomination whaiever. The dejith of their ignorance was amazing. A minister was swrñmnned to altend the couch of a dying man, and on exawining htm as to his religious l'ai.h, found that he hnd hever even heard the name of Jrsus Christ but fis an oath.
