Mrs. Martin Seeking To Reopen Sales Place For Shut-Ins' Work
Fire at the Tuckaway Shop has dealt a "low blow" to many of the shut-ins and handicapped persons in the Ann Arbor area, an inventory of the stock there shows.
Mrs. Margaret Nickerson Martin, owner of the shop, which serves as a sales outlet for the handicraft work of the handicapped, this morning said that approximately three-quarters of the stock was damaged by smoke in the blaze.
She fears that the loss may make quite a dent in the Christmas plans of her shut-in suppliers, who may have been counting on receipts from the sales of their goods to bolster their shopping budgets.
So even if "most of the merchandise" was covered by an insurance policy - she's bending every effort to get the shop reopened before the Christmas rush is over, in hopes of selling the undamaged portion of the stock.
