A short lecture from my single mother, Dr. Montgomery

“Don’t let him take pieces of you. Don’t let him change what you want to do for a living. If you want to be a doctor, don’t let his insecurity of being inferior to you change that. If you want kids, don’t let him convince you that you would be a poor mother. If you want to live in the city, don’t let him tell you that the noise will wake the baby. Kids have happy lives in the city all the time.”

I hear cars pass on the late night streets, but I find it peaceful.

“Don’t let him tell you that you need him. You don’t. You need yourself. That’s all”
