She sits staring at her ceiling, alone, trying to sleep. Nobody there but the darkness while she hopelessly struggles against her mind . To her, fighting off thoughts is like trying to fend off a hurricane. No matter what she does, they just keep spinning and swirling. The harder she fights the tighter the rope of thoughts grips her. She feels strangled. Silent tears soak her cheeks as she stares off into the darkness. Then, she hears a soft chime. She leans over while wiping the tears from her face. She looks down at her phone. Her thoughts slow and her tears stop. The message simply says: “Goodnight, I love you”. She lays down once again and finally drifts off to sleep, knowing she is not alone.
