BRIEFING UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
Library given $1.1 million
The University of Michigan Library has received a $1.1 million gift from the estate of a 1924 graduate and his wife. It is the largest individual gift ever given to the library.
The Dr. Raymund and Elizabeth Cassidy Endowed Book Fund will be used primarily to preserve, expand and improve access to the library's research collections, with a special focus on the humanities and social sciences, said William A. Gosling, library director
"It is an important and generous gift to the library," Gosling said. “It represents a public acknowledgment of the value of the library to the mission of this institution. The Cassidy gift will create a permanent and lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.”
Gosling said income from the fund will likely be used to acquire and preserve monographs, and to transfer some existing works to an electronic format for easier access.
