We have never been to Asia, nor have we been to Africa.

“How about Paris? The Eiffel Tower, the “City of Love”? That’d be pretty romantic, don’t you think?”

I shrug, “Maybe we should stay in the continent.” We have never been to Europe either.

“Okay, okay.”

She crosses “Barcelona”, “Sydney”, and “Buenos Aires” off the list, then stares down at it, furrowing her brow.

“I heard New Mexico is beautiful.”

“That’s a little far south, wouldn’t you say?”

“I guess you’re right.” She glances back down at the list, “Canada? That’s close.”

She was right; we live in Minnesota.

“We’d have to get passports.”

“The east coast could be fun. Philadelphia? Boston? New--”

“I’m not a fan of the east coast.”

“You’ve been there?”

“No.”

A pause. “North Dakota? That’s just west of us.”

“What’s there to do in North Dakota?”

“Well, we could--”

Her phone rings.

“Hold on...hello?”

I look at the map. Minnesota’s nice.

“Yeah, hold on, I’ll ask him.”

Then, to me: “The Sullivans invited us to dinner. An Italian place downtown-- ‘Antonio’s’; I think it’d be fun.”

“Tell them no,” I say.

She raises her eyebrows, “You sure?”

“Yeah.”

We have never been there.
