White Cane drive starts Friday
Members of Ann Arbor Lions Clubs, as well as those in other area communities, will be on the streets in force beginning Friday, for their annual White Cane Drive to raise funds to support Michigan's
approximately 160,000 blind and visually impaired persons. April 29 through May 8 is designated as White Cane Week and during the 10-day period Lions will be manning shopping centers, street corners, parking areas and other heavily trafficked locations seeking donations from the public. The drive will be in progress throughout the period, but the Lions will concentrate their efforts on weekends. Monies raised will support a variety of local and state civic undertakings, including help for needy persons with visual handicaps. The Leader Dog School at Rochester, which helps local persons, is among agencies receiving support. Also among organizations receiving support are the Michigan Lions Eye Banks and the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.
