In trimming newly grafted trees, a fine saw used ; and in order to créate a free growth of wood the trees should be attended to early in the month of March or beginning of April. The limbs should not all be cut off the season after grafting ; for if trimmed too inuch sap is forced into the grafts, which are apt to be blown off by the high winds that occur during the suramer. When this happens, the trees are nearly ruined, and no skill can restore them. The practice of pruning apple trees in the month of June, may be well enough where the present erop is an object ; but it is proper for every one who undertakes such work, to understand the difference between pruning to créate a growth of wood in newly set grafts, and pruning to benefit the fruit which is growing on the tree. I. HlLDRETH. Séneca County, New York. Gkafting Cement. - Many orchardists and practical farmers, who have occasion to use this cement, are ignorant of its composition, or the proportion of the ingredients. - We therefore publish for the benefit of such the following recipe : " One part beel's tallow, two parts beeswax, and four parts rosin ; melt and mix well together ; then pour into cold water, and work very thoroughly as shoemaker's wax is worked before using. Wax for grafting made in this way, possesses the advantage of not cracking in cold weather, or melting in hot wealher.
