When antislavery men of the Noiïh asserl ihat the Bible is a sealed book to slaves t ( the Soutli, it is very common for the advocates and apologista of slnvery lo deny the assertion. They seem to feel, that wilhbolding the Word of God from any man or class of men is a high crime, and henee their anxiety to prevent the impression that sucli a thing is done. But southern men themselves and even ecclesiasiical bodies at ihe South, confess the very thing vvhh vvhich thoy are charged. Under such circumstances, who sliall we believe ? We should say, believe ihose who have the best means of knowing the facts, and are the least likely to misrepresent them. Tlie following lestimony is fropi a " Report on the Religious Instructions of Colored Pcople,," published in the Alabama Baptist. Il applies parlicularly to ilint State, but no doubl exhihits a condition ofthings which exists extensively in other States. [New York Recorder.] "The slaves are eniirely dependent upon us. If we are silent, and speak not lo them the words of lile, they are lost. The whole horizon lo ihem is darlt, save the single spot where soulhern Chrislains stand; if no Iight comes from thencc, they will be in darkness. To ihem the writteu word of God is a sealed book ; other reügious books and tracts are placed out of their reaeh by laws rendered necessary by the blind fanaticism of olhers ; no missionary from anolher land comes to them. We alone are our colored breihren's keepers, and if their souls die, against us will their blood cali to God out of the ground."
