Businessman 0. R. Mayer Dies At 80
Oswald R. Mayer, 80, retired former co-owner of MayerSchairer Co., an office supply firm located at 112 S. Main, died Friday evening at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He lived at 1131 W. Washington.
He was born on March 2, 1885, in Ann Arbor, a son of John and Christine Mayer. He started in the stationery and printing business in 1909 with Walter Schoettle at 112 S. Main. In 1910, he became president de the

Mayer-Schairer Co. with the late Alfred Schairer, and served in that capacity until 1955, when they sold the business. Mr. Mayer was an alderman from the city's former Second Ward and also was a charter member of the zoning board. He also served two terms on the Ann Arbor Board of Education.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church; a life member and past exalted ruler of Elks Lodge No. 325; and a life member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 159, F&AM.
On Sept. 26, 1922, he married Alice Schaible of Ann Arbor. She survives. Also surviving are three nephews and three nieces. 1 Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Muehlig Chapel. The Rev. Ralph B. Piper will officiate. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
