Engaging in the Local Food System: From Farmers Markets to Growing Your Own | Gardening & DIY Fest
Saturday May 18, 2019: 3:00pm to 3:45pm
Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room
Washtenaw County is rich in local food resources. Local farms offer CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) programs, there is a farmers market almost every day of the week, and many retailers, restaurants, and institutions are buying seasonal food directly from producers. This engaging presentation will explore the local food landscape in Washtenaw County and help you identify ways in which you can actively participate. We'll discuss farmers markets and food assistance programs, 10 Cents a Meal for School Kids and Farms, questions to ask when shopping and eating out, and more. Local food guru Kelly Wilson will present this informative talk.
This event is just one part of our 3rd Annual Gardening & DIY Fest on Saturday, May 18 from 11:00-5:00 PM. In addition to the workshops there will be vendors selling handmade wares, plants, fresh flowers, body care and more!
There will also be representatives from area organizations like the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, Michigan Folk School, Ann Arbor Backyard Beekeepers Recycle Ann Arbor, Project Grow & many others!
