Chuck Ritter Will Direct Pioneers

An era has ended.
Jay Stielstra, Ann Arbor High varsity football coach for the past eight years, will take over the reins at the new Ann Arbor Huron High effective with the coming season, school officials said today.
His successor at Ann Arbor High, to be known as Pioneer High, is Chuck Ritter, a 12-year veteran of the football coaching staff.
Stielstra, a 1955 Michigan graduate, has been a highly successful coach at Ann Arbor High, compiling an overall record of 51 wins, 12 losses, and one tie while leading the Pioneers to three Six-A League championships.
Stielstra's finest year was 1962 when Ann Arbor High won all eight starts and was ranked as the number one Class A team in the state by both the Associated Press and United Press.
Stielstra, a Ludington prep product, coached at Grass Lake for one year and at University High for three years, before accepting the Pioneer assignment in 1959.
"I have the greatest admiration for Paul Meyers (new principal of Huron High) and would like to continue my association with him," Stielstra said in listing reasons for the change.
"I've had a good experience at Ann Arbor High but I think a change would be interesting,” | added the Pioneer mentor.

"We apparently will have one senior with football experience. It will be a real tough go -like a small child starting to walk," added the new Huron, coach in reviewing prospects.
