School sale negotiations to begin soon
YPSILANTI - The Ypsilanti Board of Education plans to soon begin negotiating with the the Word of God, Inc., of Ann Arbor for sale of the 56-year-old Woodruff Elementary School located at 211 E. Michigan Ave.
The board decided to close the
Schools school last August because of declining enrollment. The appraised value of the building is $180,000.
SUPERINTENDENT Robert L. McLennan said Word of God, an ecumenical Christian community offered $150,000 to buy the building to use as a school for grades K-12. He said that although other offers were made, the group's proposal was compatible with the board's pians to continue using the structure as a school.
In other board business this week, a presentation was made by General Dynamics, headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., to install a new telephone system in school buildings. McLennan said the company's proposal would provide a savings to the school as well as improving the phone system. The schools are now served by Michigan Bell. General Dynamics specializes in telephone systems for schools and other institutions. McLennan said the board is expected to act on the proposal during next Monday's meeting.
ALSO DISCUSSED was the $55,000 sale of a house built by the Regional Career Technical Center to Arthur and Linda Kramer. The house is located at 536 Berkley St.
In addition, board members discussed accepting a 1981 Pontiac from General Motors to be used in the high school auto shop class, tenure for a special education teacher at East Middle School, a leave of absence for a teacher consultant at West Middle School and hiring of a half-time speech therapist at the Rackham School. The school district's health curriculum was also discussed.
